Brother of fellow pro player Bob Fitzgerald.
Born to Richard and Emma Fitzgerald, From Queens, Dick went to Fordham and then into the military. He played professionally in the ABL until joining the Toronto Huskies in the BAA. When head coach and player Ed Sadowski quit the team, Lew Hayman coached a game before Fitzgerald took over on an interim basis. The Huskies won two of the three games Fitzgerald coached, before former Major League Baseball player Red Rolfe was named the head coach, which he held for the remainder of the season.
Fitzgerald died at the young age of 47, but I cannot find the circumstances behind this premature death.

Ken Corley
Albert Kenneth "Ken" Corley

Aurora, CO

1939-40 Central State College - Oklahoma (College)

1945-46 Philadelphia Naval Yard (Military)
1945-46 Wilmington Bombers (ABL)
1946-47 Wilmington Bombers (ABL)
1946-47 Cleveland Rebels (BAA) ??
A couple inaccuracies have been printed about Corley over the years. First off, he went to Central State College (now the University of Central Oklahoma), not Oklahoma State Teachers College (now OK State) as previously reported.
He is also listed in many places as the brother of fellow professional cager Ray Corley, but Ray grew up on Staten Island and went to Notre Dame. Both played in the ABL, though, and that is where this story may have started, but according to family records, both men are from different families in different parts of the United States.
Born to Luther and Fannie, Corley served in the U.S. Navy during World War 2, and played basketball for two years with Wilmington in the ABL, as well as a short stint with the Cleveland Rebels in the BAA. (Note added 12/22/16 - I cannot find any evidence he actually played in a game for the Rebels. He signed with them on October 22, 1946, but I looked over all 60 box scores for the Rebels and his name never appears. Any proof is welcome. It appears he spent the entire 1946-47 season with Wilmington.) He played basketball and football at Central State, and also played some minor league baseball, for Americus in the Georgia Florida League in 1946. According to 1946 articles, he hailed from Eldorado, Oklahoma.
He is listed as both Kenneth Albert and Albert Kenneth. One year, the family census lists the family name as "Carley"
He was married to Marjorie.

Ernie was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corps, but a heart murmur kept him from induction. In 1946, Calverley delivered one of the most memorable shots in NIT history when he connected on a 62-foot shot at the buzzer to send his Rhode Island team to overtime against Bowling Green. He went on to play three seasons for the BAA's Providence Steamrollers. In August of 1949, Calverley signed with the Boston Celtics. When the Providence franchise was suspended following the 1948-49 season, seven of the players were awarded to the nearby Celtics. He was released by the Celtics two weeks prior to the opening of the 49-50 season, and signed with the Baltimore Bullets. However, the day before the Bullet's opener, he decided to quit the sport and return home to become a high school coach. He went on to coach at Bryant, and then lead the URI squad for 11 seasons, eventually becoming the AD there.
In 2003, Calverley underwent surgery to receive a pacemaker. However, he got an infection and later died.

** Once the 1947-48 regular season was over, Vancouver was eliminated and Baker signed with Bellingham for the playoffs. He played in the first playoff game against Seattle. Seattle filed a protest, saying that Baker was not properly signed by Bellingham per the league rules. The 84-77 Bellingham win was revered to a Seattle victory by forfeit. In protest, Bellingham quit the league. So in short, Baker appeared in one game for Bellingham where the results didn't don't count.
