Roy Hurley

Roy Leonard Hurley

Born:
August 12, 1922
Indianapolis, IN

Died:
October 14, 1993
Indianapolis, IN

Career
Arsenal Technical High School - Indianapolis (High School)
1945-46 Indianapolis Kautskys (NBL)
1946-47 Toronto Huskies (BAA)
1947-48 Syracuse Nationals (NBL)
1947-48 Tri-Cities Blackhawks (NBL)

After graduating from Arsenal Tech, Hurley served in the U.S. Navy during World War 2. He enrolled at Indiana University after his service, but was recruited by the Kautskys to join the NBL team. He went on the the Toronto Huskies for the inaugural season of the BAA, playing in the first BAA game in history. He returned to the NBL the next season. In 1950 he began working with Unified Funds Inc, staying there for 20 years. He worked as a marketing rep for the Indiana Pacers and as an assistant to the president for the Indianapolis Ice of the International Hockey League. Hurley died in 1993.

Roy Hurley is listed on other sites and encyclopedias as having attended Murray State. This appears to be from confusing Herb Hurley with Roy Hurley. Herb was a star at Murray State during World War 2, whereas Roy's obituary in the Indianapolis Star says absolutely nothing about Murray State. Roy Hurley does not appear on the Murray State all-time roster.
