Born to Anthony and Mary Zeller in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, Zeller attended St. George HS in Allentown, followed by Washington and Jefferson College. Afterwards, Zeller entered the U.S. Navy and served during World War 2. He returned to school, attending the University of Pittsburgh. He played basketball there for two years, enjoying his added eligibility due to his service during the war. He played a couple seasons professionally while going to med school. He served as the director of anesthesiology at Columbia Hospital in Oakland for 20 years and then chief anesthesiologist at Aliquippa Hospital for 17 year, retiring in 1989.


Dr. Zeller married Cleta Huneck and they had four daughters.
