Born to Serbian immigrants, Petar "Press" Maravich played in the NBL and BAA, but is better known as a collegiate coach. While at LSU, he coached his son, Pete, who set the NCAA scoring record and is on  of the greatest basketball players the world has ever known,

Maravich spent World War 2 in the U.S.Navy.

Maravich was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1985. Although diagnosed early, Maravich attempted holistic methods of treatment which allowed the disease to progress. He died in 1987.
