Roger grew up in Pittsburgh, and attended Ohio State before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He was discharged in January of 1946 and enrolled at Pitt. He finished his education there and later signed on with the Ironmen, playing alongside his brother Noble Jorgensen. He later coached and taught at Waynesburg College before moving into a career in sales.
He was married to Betsy Bryant and had three daughters.
