While in the military, Passaglia played for the Aberdeen Proving Grounds team, which played exhibition games against some professional teams. Because of these games, Passaglia was declared to not be eligible for amateur teams, including AAU teams. He fought to have military personal not lose their amateur status while in the military, a battle he won. Later, while with the Capitols, he had to sue the Dayton Metropolitans to be released from the contract he had signed with them.
After playing basketball professionally for a few years, he became an insurance agent in Louisville, and later worked at Fort Knox
He married Hetty Kelly, whom he met at a theater where she was a ticket taker, in 1942, and they had a son and a daughter.
