Hurwitz was later a State Representative, representing the Cohasset district in Boston as a Republican. He and his wife, Theresa, had a daughter, Mary (d. 2006), who also served Massachusetts in the state legislature. There is still a basketball tournament held at Northeastern University that bears his name.
