Clyde Anton

Clyde Anton

Born:

Died:

Career
1937-38 Columbus Athletic Supply (NBL)

Mansfield News Journal from Feb 27, 1938, lists Anton as an Ohio State graduate. However, Ohio State letterman records do not list a "Clyde Anton" as playing there. Not even a "Clyde" or an "Anton." Part of me wonders if Anton is his middle name, and he used that as his last name instead of his actual last name, which may have been too "ethnic" for the era.

There was a person who was a college professor in the Pennsylvania area named J. Clyde Anton.

Another possibility is a Clyde Anton, born Sept 19, 1913, in Indiana

Trail seems to lead me to Waterloo, Iowa. He may have gone to Columbia College in Iowa. Is he Philip Shuck Anton?

  1. I think there MIGHT be a correlation between the basketball player Clyde Anton and the Greek pro boxer Anton Christoforidis ("AC"). AC was born in 1917 and eventually moved to the U.S. (Geneva, OH) after his pro boxing days were mostly over. A google search doesn't reveal AC's full name, so Clyde isn't out of the possibility. A lot of newspaper archive websites require subscriptions so it's hard to get info, but at the very least I think it's worth exhausting the search about AC before declaring him to be not the same person as Clyde Anton.

  2. I don't think AC's timeline fits with Clyde Anton, but when checking into your suggestion I did find a Clyde (or Claude) Antonucci from Ohio who does fit. I will look into that more and see.
