Hilgemann was born in Wabash, Indiana to Albert (1885-1947) and Mable
(Mills) (1891-1980). played two
seasons in the NBL and more with various independent pro teams. He enlisted in the army in 1943 and saw service in World War 2 and later
worked for the Indiana Department of Weights and Measures. Hilgemann was
also an outstanding softball player as well as basketball. He died of
an apparent heart attack in 1967 at 50. He had a son, James, and two
daughters, Joellyn (Krauskopf) and Sarah Ann.
He allegedly played at the University of Toledo, but no records back this up.
