Article in the Daily Times refers to a high school basketball player, Curley Owen, who was selected 2nd team All-District. Same article gives us his real name, Carroll. Found a Carroll Owen residing in Columbus that is the right age. Looks like a good match.

Born to John and Bertie Owen, the family moved from Alabama to Ohio sometime in the 1920's.

Mansfield News Journal from Feb 27, 1938, lists Sullivan as a Notre Dame graduate. However, no Sullivan from that era is listed on Notre Dame's list of lettermen. There was a football player named Jack Sullivan from around that time at Notre Dame.

Allegedly born in 1916. There is a John Landis Sullivan (1916-2002) from the Columbus area, and a John Lawence Sullivan (1915-1962)

Thanks to some new sources, I was pretty certain that the Columbus player previously just known as "McConnell" is likely Bob McConnell. Bob was a Denison basketball star who was coaching in Granville, Ohio, in 1937. Granville is very close to Columbus, so it seems very likely that he is the partially-identified player. I am almost 100% positive.

A football and basketball player at Stivers HS, he would later in life be heavily involved in midget racing. He retired to Florida, where he died in 1993.

He and his wife, Helen, had one son and one daughter.
