One of the first big-men in professional basketball, 6'9 Novak played basketball at Loyola before embarking on a long pro career. He later worked for Delco Products until retiring in 1974. He died in 1978 of a heart attack.

He was married to Evelyn Peterson and had one son and three daughters.
