At Iowa, Prasse was the captain of the football team. Aside from football and basketball, Prasse also played baseball at Iowa. He was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the NFL, and played baseball in 1940 and 1941 in the St Louis Cardinal's farm system. He graduated and played for Oshkosh, with a break to serve in the military during World War 2. He was shot in the arm in combat, thus ending his baseball career. After one more season with Oshkosh, he went to work as an insurance salesman. He died in 2005 of a brain hemorrhage after falling in his home.
He and his wife, Norma, whom he married in 1942, had ten children, including sons Irv Jr., Greg, Chris and Jerry; and daughters Nina Wessels, Gretchen Losurdo, Joanne Ackard, Bernie Hill and Meg Davis.
