Not sure about the previously recorded "August 1, 1917" birthdate used in other sites, and if that is the same Gordon McComb. So I treated this as an unknown player.

Gordon Bayard McComb was born February 21, 1917, to George and Iva McComb in Harvey, Illinois. That is where Thornton High School is, so I am assuming that is the right guy. According to 1930 and 1940 census records, Gordon B. was still in Harvey at those times.

This indicates that the previous birth (8/1/17) and death (sept 1982) dates are of a different Gordon McComb. So let's correct the record.

McComb was born in Harvey, Illinois, to George (1887-1958) and Iva McComb (1892-1994). He was a member of the 1933 Illinois championship team from Thornton HS, along with Lou Boudreau, Dar Hutchins and Tom Nisbet. He played briefly for Hammond before entering the Army in 1941 and serving the country in World War 2.

He married Rosemary Montbriand (1919-2010) and they had a son, Michael.
