The 6'1, 170-pound Hitson was a three-sport player at Starke Prep and after school he went on to play minor league baseball. The left-handed hitting infielder didn't progress high in the minor leagues, leaving baseball in 1951. He played some pro and semi-pro basketball around his hometown of Montgomery.
