The wrong man was previously identified as the basketball-playing Ted Cook. Despite what other sites claim, he is NOT Ted Cook, the NFL player from the University of Alabama.
Born in Beckley, West Virginia, to John Wallace and Alma Cook, Ted Cook went to Woodrow Wilson HS before enrolling at Tennessee. He played basketball there before World War 2 intervened, but he returned to Tennessee after the war to finish his education. After graduating, he tried out with Tri Cities Blackhawks but didn't make the team. He would sign with the Lakers and play in the NBL for a few seasons in short bursts with three different teams. He would become the Director of Recreation in Beckley in 1949, but would eventually return to Knoxville, where he died in 1990.
Ted married Dorothy Roehl (1927-2009) in 1949
Thanks to John Grasso for clearing this one up.
