In April of 1952, Boag announced her was retiring from the pro game to coach at the high school level. He returned to the Pistons in the 1952-53 season to play a few games, but remained a coach and eventually AD after that. In 1961, he was hired by Warsaw HS as their head coach.
He married MaryEllen Robinson on February 10, 1944 and the had two sons and three daughters.
