Played college ball at Toledo, but his name does not appear on the UT list of letter winners. Apparently also played a lot of semi-pro basketball. Many sources have Wast listed as one of the first black players in the league, but according to Murray Nelson's book "The National Basketball League: A History, 1935-1949", we was not black. (Chapter 7, note 1).
After playing basketball, he worked as a salesman at Sears for 23 years.
He was married to Beverly, and had two sons, John and Al.
