In 1948, he was named the coach of Providence in the BAA, and struggled to a 4-25 record. He activated himself for one game on January 27, 1948, three days shy of his 46th birthday, and became the oldest person to appear in a BAA.NBA game.

Aside from basketball, Hickey enjoyed a lengthy career in baseball, playing 15 minor league seasons and managing two.

  1. I love this site. One correction, though. Nat Hickey played two games with Providence in 1948, against St. Louis on Jan. 27 and then against the Knicks the next night.
