A talented golfer (we won three Michigan Open titles) as well as basketball player, Connolly worked as a clerk in the Wayne County Welfare Department in the 1930's. He was later the long-term athletic director for the CYO as well as director of the Golden Gloves Tournament. He died in 1982 following a lengthy illness.
He married Fern Hawkins in 1936 and they had a son and two daughters.
