In the off-season of 1946-47, he put on the basketball uniform of the hapless Spokane Orphans for a short spell. He was a longtime coach at Linfield, coaching both basketball and baseball, and even was assistant coach for the football team there.

He married Dorothy Wall (1915-2013) in 1935
