Born to Anton and Mary Ann Drovetto, Email served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War 2. After the war, Drovetto would play basketball with the Yakima Ramblers of the Pacific Coast League in the 1946-47 season. Emil became a police officer and detective in Seattle, and in 1968, he was shot four times in a grocery store robbery, but recovered. He retired from the police department in 1972 and in retirement worked for Longacres Race Track in Renton, Washington. Emil died in 2019 following a fight with Alzheimer's Disease.
Emil married Norma Bosone in 1948 and they had three kids.
