Peden was a baseball and basketball player from Vancouver, representing his country in the 1936 Olympics. He played for a few seasons in the Pittsburgh Pirates farm system, and also played two seasons of pro basketball with the Hornets. He and his brother Torchy were also well-known Canadian cyclists.
