A football and basketball star at De La Salle, Riska signed with Oshkosh in 1941 but entered the Navy the following year. He earned a Purple Heart in the war. He returned and played four more seasons with Oshkosh before turning to coaching. He coached the basketball team at his alma mater for 11 seasons, while working on Mayor Daley's Youth Foundation and eventually the Department of Urban Renewal. He retired and moved to Missouri City, Texas, and died in a Houston hospital in 1992.
Eddie was married to Anne, and they had a son, Edward Jr., and daughter, Mary Grauer.
