After graduating from Amundsen HS in 1945, Rehfeldt joined the U.S. Army. However, World War 2 was coming to an end, and Rehfeldt was discharged a year later. He enrolled at Wisconsin and played four years there, becoming the first Badger to score 1000 points. He was drafted by the Bullets but was sold a month into his second season to he Hawks.
After playing two years in the NBA, he returned to Wisconsin, taking the job as a salesman for a trucking company.
In 1966, Rehfeldt was diagnosed with cancer, which he fought for many years until his death in 1980 at 53.
