Born to Eugene and Catherine Coleman. Coleman was a basketball star at St. Thomas, which became the University of Scranton in 1938. He was named the basketball coach at the University of Scranton after graduating, and played a little bit of pro basketball concurrently. He was later work for Lackawanna County in Pennsylvania as a Deputy Sheriff, Recorder of Deeds and a Clerk of Courts (elected in 1949). Coleman was selected to the University of Scranton Hall of Fame in 1977.
His uncle, also named Edward, was the sheriff of the County who swore in Red as a deputy. Sheriff Coleman died in 1942.

Pretty certain I have the right dates. Definitely alive in Jan of 1954, died before July 1998.
