1943-44 Trenton Tigers (ABL)
On February 13, 1943, a man appears in the box score named "Jack Flowers"
and playing center. Mike Bloom
was noticeably absent for this game, and "Flowers" scored 12 points and
then vanished. It appears that Flowers was a local Philly man who was pressed into duty with Trenton when Bloom was unable to play or didn't show. There is a Jack Flowers who refereed a few collegiate games around Reading, Pennsylvania at that time, and another Jack Flowers who was in the U.S. Navy and may have been on leave at the time of the game. However, the referee Flowers was officating games as far back as 1926, so he would likely be too old to put up 12 points. It is also possible that Flowers IS Mike Bloom and this is either a mistake, assumed name or prank. (Bloom... flowers... get it?)
