Born in Manchester, Connecticut, to Albert and Ida Yost. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War 2, and would become the most prominent sports figure in Manchester. Not only did he many sports, he would become a referee, umpire, official, sportswriter and fan. He helped many otehr columnists get their start, and was known by virtually the entire town.
He married Adella Wrubel in 1943 and they had two sons.
