Auerbach was a member of the great NYU teams of the late 30's and early 40's. At the end of the 1940-41 season, Auerbach was declared ineligible and missed NYU's last two games. He joined the Kate Smith's Brooklyn Celtics, debuting in the pro game on March 15, 1941. He played basketball professionally through the 1940's, with an interruption to serve in the U.S. Army during World War 2.
