William McElligott

William "Red" McElligott

Born:

Died:

Career
1935-36 St. Viator College (College)
1936-37 St. Viator College (College)
1937-38 St. Viator College (College)
1938-39 Hammond Ciesar All-Americans (NBL)

Originally listed in many places as Robert McElliott, I found through old newspaper reports and St Viator newletters and yearbooks that the player at St Viator from 1936-1938 was William "Red" McElligott. So who is this Robert McElliott (1915-1975) and why was he given credit for the basketball player? May never know, but I am certain the man who played for Hammond was Red McElligott.

I found a William P. McElligot  who died in Chicago in 1997. A good possibility.

There's also William I. McElligot, who lived in Lake County (hammond)

His name appears as "McElligot" in the Feb 20, 1939 Oshkosh Daily Northwestern
