Born and raised in South Bend, Nowak was a three-time All-American at Notre Dame before joining Akron. After three seasons in Akron, he moved to Toldeo where he played one season. He played for the Philadelphia SPHAs for a season.
He owned a retail package store until he retired and moved to Florida.
