McMichael contracted spinal meningitis at age six, but recovered to be selected all-State in basketball all four years of high school. He also earned letters in golf, baseball and football. He then went on to star at Northwestern before a borken foot sidelined him for most of his senior year. He went to Akron Goodyear, where he played a season of basketball in the NBL. He entered the Navy for World War 2, and returned to Des Moines to work for the Cowles Broadcasting Company, and then in 1954, started work for the Iowa-Des Moines National Bank, where he stayed until 1997.
McMichael married Dot and they had three daughters. Retired to Florida
I did find the 1940 census record showing he was living in Tennessee with his wife, Barbara, and 2 year old daughter, Sarah. Was "Dot" the same person as Barbara? Or did he remarry? Or were there two Marcellus McMichaels with the same age from Iowa?
