After playing at Illinois, he played for five years in the NBL before heading off to coaching at the high school level. He also served as an officer in the US Armed Forces during World War 2.
Nisbet suffered a massive heart attack on March 25, 1963, and died two weeks later at 47 years of age.  He was married to Marge and had a son, Tommy, and a daughter, Sandy.
