There were two players named Bob Johnson on the 1937-38 Pitt team. Robert A. is the player who signed with Akron. From here, with some deep ancestry searches, found a death date, and then an obit. It mentions Pitt but not basketball, but I am pretty certain this is the right guy.
Served in the U.S. Navy during World War 2.
