After graduating from Rutgers with a degree in physical education, Lynner would go n to teach and coach for many years. He was an excellent tennis player, Lynner was regularly ranked on 1 in amateur singles tennis in the Eastern Division in the USTA, and as a senior was the top-ranked tennis player in Florida at age 65 and 70.

He married Claire and they had three daughters and one son.
