From Brooklyn, Stagoff graduated from New Utrechet and headed to LIU. He entered the U.S. Navy for World War 2 after his freshman year, and after his military service, he went to Boston College. He would play briefly with the Middletown Guards in the ABL.
Mort and his wife, Joan, had two daughters.
