Shiel, a high-scoring basketball player at St Peter's College and later in the ABL, would get his Masters from St. John's in 1952 and went into college administration. He served in the New Jersey State Senate from 1978 through 1982. He would move to Florida where he run unsuccessfully for County Commissioner in Sarasota, Florida.
