Born to Rose and Anthony (1892-1964) Cerrone, the 5'11 Johnny was a basketball star at Dewitt Clinton, and would eventually become the basketball team captain in his senior year at Columbia (he did not play as a freshman). He also played shortstop on the Columbia baseball team.


He served in the U.S. Army during World War 2.
