After high school, Holland entered the U.S. Navy, and was sent to training at Berea College, where he played on the basketball team. After the war, we enrolled at UK, and went on to play in the NBA for three seasons. He later would operate a successful car dealership in Charelston, West Virginia, where he died in 2010.

He was married to Betty Priestly and they had one son and one daughter.
