From New York, Leede went to Dartmouth before playing for the Boston Celtics, graduating with a degree in chemistry. After two seasons in the NBA, Leede enrolled in Harvard business school and took the head coaching job at MIT there while attending classes. He completed his MBA in 1953 and moved to Tulsa to work for White Eagle Oil. In 1956, Ed moved to Midland, Texas and became on oilman. He would go on to form Leede Oil and Gas, Inc. He also served in the USMC right after World War 2.
He married Margaret in 1955 and they had 5 children.
