Eskridge served in the USMC during World War 2, at witnessed both flag raisings on Iwo Jima. He returned to college after the war, and played pro basketball briefly before taking a coaching job at Atchison High School in Kansas. He was later hired by Phog Allen to be an assistant coach at KU. He left Kansas to work as the equipment manager with Tom Landry for the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL, and is credited with designing the Cowboy's logo.
