Born in Versailles, Ohio, to Orville and Mabel Brown, Brown served in the USMC during World War 2. He graduated from Miami University of Ohio on January 28, 1949, and signed with the Steamrollers two days later. He played pro basketball for a few years before moving out to Texas. He worked as a sales rep and sales manager for many years in the steel industry.


Married twice, Brown had a son and a daughter.
