Born to John (1894-1960) and Alice (1903-1958) Brown entered the U.S. Navy partially into the school year in 1942, and played at the College of Pacific while training. After World War 2, he returned to Humboldt. He played briefly for the Bullets before going into education, while getting a Master's Degree at the University of California. He worked for many years as an administrator around San Mateo County in California.
He married Nell Dickson and they had three girls and a boy.

My father was inducted into the Humboldt University Basketball Hall of Fame.
