While playing at LIU, Kassler played pro basketball in the New York State League under the name "Artie Edwards." When Coach Bee found out about this in March of 1947, he was kicked off the team permanently.

After a decent ABL career, Kassler, a World War 2 veteran who served in the Pacific, had coaching success first at St. Rose HS and then at Oneonta State.

Ed married Geraldine Dockery in 1947 and they had five daughters and a son.
