Born in Manhattan to Davis and Beatrice Kreisberg, Barry graduated from James Madison HS in Brooklyn and served in the military during World War 2. He graduated from George Washington where the 6'5 athlete played basketball, and he played pro basketball for a few years following. He would practice law, working in civil rights and was also the president of the Harkness Foundation for Dance. He died of a heart attack in 1997.
