Born in Erie to Jerome and Catherine Mahoney, Pug graduated from East High school and immediately began playing pro basketball. He would play for the Rosenblums for two years and eventually wold wind up on the House of David traveling team. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War 2, stationed in Europe and Africa. He was also a pitcher, playing briefly in the Blue Ridge League and also touring with the House of David baseball team.
He married Josephine Rog in 1936 and they had one daughter.

ReplyDeleteHello. My name is Julie Hoffman-Halliburton and Jerome Pug Mahoney was my grandfather. His only daughter, Margaret Mahoney Hoffman is my mom. My mom Margaret had 5 children, 4 son's and 1 daughter. My mom, Margaret Frances Mahoney Hoffman died July 11, 2019, at 79, she's preceded in death by her two youngest son's Christopher (died 10/30/2007) and Stephen (died 9/20/2016). She's survived by her two oldest son's William Jr and Timothy and youngest child, daughter Julie (me). I'm doing research to learn more about my family/family tree. I never had the opportunity to meet or know my grandfather as he died before I was born in 1968. Having learned that he died at only 54 years old, I am wondering if anyone knows and can tell me how he died and/or what he died from. It was neat to find his obituary online and to learn a little bit about him and if anyone knows or has any information on my grandfather it would be greatly appreciated.
