Howard Rader and his twin brother, Leonard, followed similar basketball paths. The went to the same high school, naturally, and then went to LIU where they played on one of the best collegiate teams in the country at the time. With some brief time spent in the military, Howie returned to go play professionally, first with the SPHAs in the ABL. He played two season for Tri-Cities before leaving to join the Atlanta Crackers of the PBLA. The contract jump got Howie banned from the NBL, so he moved to the BAA to join with the Baltimore Bullets.
