After college, Schroeder served with the Marines in World War 2. After the war, he played football professionally for two seasons with the Chicago Rockets of the AAFC, as well as a season of pro basketball with the Redskins. He went on to become an insurance agent. He died in his hometown of Sheboygan in 2003.
