Quinlan served in the U.S. Marines during World War 2 before playing briefly for the Royals. He later worked for Keebler for 28 years.

Jim was married to Betty Lou (dec.) and they had two sons, Thomas and William, and two daughters, Suzanne and Mary Beth. After Betty's passing, he remarried to Peggy.
