McCall attended Bradley, where he lettered in basketball, football and track. After college, he served in the U.S. Army during World War 2. He moved to Oregon in 1947, where he worked as an athletic director in the Portland Interscholastic League, retiring in 1980. McCall died following a bout with leukemia in 1997.
He married ElMaurine Murphy (1922-2010) in 1942, and they had three daughters, Paula, Jill and Siri, and a son, Mac.
