Born to Sam and Anne Dorsky, Manny was an athlete from Birmingham who played minor league baseball in the Class-F Georgia Atlantic League as sell as pro basketball first with the Birmingham Vulcans and later the same season with the Montgomery Rebels. He also served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War 2.
